The Internationalization of Amazonia
This stopped the north americans Show of the brazilian Minister of Education in the United States This one deserves to be read, after all is not every day that a brazilian shut the north americans up. During a debate at an university, in USA, the ex-governor of DF, ex minister of education and current senator CRISTOVAM BUARQUE, was asked what he thought about the internationalization of Amazonia. The young American beginning his question saying that he expected an answer of a humanist point of view, not of a brazilian. This was the Cristovam Buarqueââ¬â¢s answer: ââ¬Å"In fact, as a brazilian, I simply would speak against the internationalization of Amazonia. As much as our government donââ¬â¢t have the right care of this heritage, itââ¬â¢s ours. As a humanist, feeling the environmental degradation that threatens the Amazonia, I can imagine its internationalization, and for everything that has a lot of importance to our humanity as well. If the Amazonia, as a humanity ethics, should be internationalized, letââ¬â¢s also internationalized the oilââ¬â¢s reserves around the world. The oil is as much important for the welfare of the humanity as the Amazonia is for our future. Nevertheless, oilââ¬â¢s owners feels on the right to increase or decrease the extraction of petroleum, as well as raise its price. The same way, the financial capital of wealthy countries should be internationalized. If Amazonia is a reserve for all the humans, it can not be burned by the will of its owner, or its country. Burned Amazonia is as serious as unemployment caused by arbitrary decisions of global speculators. We can not let that the financial reserves serves to burn down entire nations according to the whims of speculation. Even before Amazonia, I would like to see the internationalization of all the big museums around the world. The Louvre canââ¬â¢t only belong to France. Each museum of the world is guardian of the most beautiful peaces produced by human genius. We cannot let this cultural heritage, as the Amazonia natural heritage, be manipulated and treated by the style of its owner or country. Not long ago, a Japanese millionaire, decided to bury with him a big masterââ¬â¢s frame. Before it, this frame should have been internationalized. During this meeting, the United Nations are realizing the Millennium Forum, but presidents of several countries had difficulties in attending it by constraints on the U. S. border. Therefore, I think that New York, as headquarters of United Nations, should be internationalized. At least Manhattan should belong to the entire humanity. Such as Paris, Veneza, Roma, Londres, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Recife, each city, with its own beauty, its own history, should belong to the entire world. If the United Sates wants to internationalized Amazonia, due to the risk of letting it in a brazilian hand, letââ¬â¢s internationalized all U. S. ââ¬â¢s nuclear arsenals. Even because they have already proved they are capable to use these weapons, causing destruction thousands of times bigger than the deplorable burnings done in brazilians forests. I support the idea of internalizing the world forests reserves in exchange for debt. Letââ¬â¢s beginning using this debt to guarantee that each child in the world will have the change to eat and go to school. Letââ¬â¢s internationalized the children, treating, all of them, regardless the country of their birth, as a heritage who deserves care from the entire world. As a humanist, I agree to defend the internationalization of the world. But, while the world treats me as a brazilian, I will fight for the Amazonia to be ours. Only ours! ââ¬

Public Speech on Sharks
Sharks! What are they? Big scary monsters? Do you think of sharks coming out of the depths at you? Our active imaginations have made sharks into modern day monsters. But do you really know what your chances are of getting attacked by a shark? We all know this about sharks, donââ¬â¢t we? Theyââ¬â¢re vicious, theyââ¬â¢ll eat anything, they all want to eat people, and theyââ¬â¢re everywhere. Well, just think about this. Most shark species (about 80%) have never even attacked a human. And of the ones that do, it adds up to about 100 people,à each year,à worldwideâ⬠¦Ã and most of these victims survive. In fact, most sharks are small, harmless and donââ¬â¢t live anywhere near us. So now that we know the facts, letââ¬â¢s look a little more closely at the life of a shark and how they really behave. First things first: how keen are they to get themselves some human flesh? Hardly at all, as it turns out. Their job is to live by eating, breathing and reproducing â⬠â just like any other animal. They eat fish and other marine animals.People are not part of their normal diet. Some sharks are even plankton-eaters. And they donââ¬â¢t eat all that much! According to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, sharks that have been studied eat about 2% of their body weight per day ââ¬â slightly less than most humans. That means a 45-kilogram (100 pound) shark would probably eat food equal to about five hamburgers a day! And think about this: If white sharks really were attacking humans for food, why is it that nearly 75% of these attacks are non-fatal? Why do they stop eating? The answer, according to most experts is that theyââ¬â¢re looking for something with more fat. People are too scrawny. And thatââ¬â¢s why; after it takes a first bite,à a great white will usually turn up its nose at whatever remains. So why exactly do they attack, if they donââ¬â¢t want us? About the only time sharks attack humans on purpose is when their ter ritory is invaded or their courtship rituals are interrupted. Anyone with a pet knows that any animal can become fierce when strangers invade its space. Sharks are just the same. Most other shark attacks are probably also cases of mistaken identity:à a swimmer's flapping feet and hands may look like the movements of a fish darting through the water;à a human, especially one wearing a black wet suit and flippers, may look something like a seal. But donââ¬â¢t even assume that because you can aggravate them, that thereââ¬â¢s danger waiting on your beach. The beaches arenââ¬â¢t full of great white sharks, just waiting for us. Far from it. In fact, great whites are relatively uncommon, and they prefer cooler waters. Whatââ¬â¢s more, in some parts of their range, great whites are close to being endangered.

Against school- by gatto, what's the purpose o education- form of letter - Essay Example Gatto refer to the American schooling system as a childish program where children are forced to go to school. He believes that he would introduce an education system where children would be given the chance to take risks and make decisions on going to schools. Gatto identifies with your situation in that; he believes that schooling can be boredom. The author believes that schooling can be a problem and a bog question to most children who are unhappy in schools. His pamphlet poses the question, ââ¬Å"Do we really need Schooling?â⬠To clarify his argument, Gatto affirms that having education is not the same to schooling. The author believes that a student can acquire knowledge at the comfort of his zone without having to go to school. Gatto considers schooling as a daily routine, which he refers to as childishness. He further asserts that schooling makes children not to grow up in their mindset. Gatto supports his arguments by enumerating prominent Americans who did not attend schooling but turned out to be successful and productive in the American society. A perfect example of such people is Abraham Lincoln who did not attend the schooling system. Gatto defines education as the process to equip children with knowledge and not to be schooled. As far as the author is concerned, the schooling system benefits the economy as parents are obliged to pay some amount. Gatto believes that the schooling system adds interests to the political, economic, and social economy. Nevertheless, children continue to be fed with u nnecessary and necessary information and this deprive them from thinking by themselves. After schooling, these children end up being consumers and employees and as a result, their capacities to be what they want to be are limited. Further, Gatto expresses how teachers and students are bored with the school system. In most

Treasury and Risk Management - Assignment Example This form of funds can be termed as being subsidiary and the other fact remains that, multinational corporations are the major investments that are often affected by such foreign exchange risks and economic implications. Multinational corporations are firms that operate in more than one country. It is an enterprise that operates globally with several branches in different countries. The control of the activities and operations of these firms is done at the home country with subsidiary managers given fewer powers to make important decisions. Managers in Multinational Corporations get accessed to global knowledge and skills through training that are important for them in the process of carrying out their global duties. They are well trained in order to compete well in the global environment. These firms lead to transfer of knowledge and technology in several countries in the world especially a case where labour is recruited from the global environment (ENGEL, 2011). A floating exchange rate refers to the countrys exchange rate system whereby its nature of currency is largely set by foreign-exchange institutions through demand and for that specific currency being more comparative to others. Thus, such kinds of exchange rates often transforms freely with the main determinants being the aspect of FOREX trading (BARTH & WONG, 1994).à There is often an overall claim regarding the aspect of floating exchange rates being more preferable toà the fixed exchange rates. Business Research Discussion Week 11 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Business Research Discussion Week 11 - Essay Example When p-value goes down, the price goes up; on the contrary, the price goes up whenever the p-value goes up. However, when the p-value goes up, the mile goes up and vice-versa. Therefore, an increase on p-value will automatically lower the price of purchasing the gas. Thus, the expenditure will go down as well. On the other hand, an increase in p-value lead to an increase in mile covered. Therefore, this means that a decrease in p-value will lead to a decrease in mile and hence reduce the expenditure. The determination of the coefficient significance is by what best measures the strength of the relationship and it is r2. The strength is expressed in the given levels of probability (Sonneveld, 2008). The data can be used to make principal decision based on the implications. A decrease in p-value lead to a decrease in price of purchasing the gas, then the company can make a decision on how to reduce the p-value, hence reduce their expenditure as well. Consequently, the company can use the data to decide on how to lower the p-value hence lower the miles covered. Thus, this will in turn lower their annual expenditure and hence more profit to the company (Neudecker &

U08a1 Personal Reflection Project - Essay Example ..""Aesthetics"" or esthetics is a branch of philosophy dealing with the definition of beautyâ⬠(Singh 2008). The concept of beauty is subjective in nature as it had been popularly coined by the phrase ââ¬Å"beauty is in the eye of the beholderâ⬠(Martin 2009). The phrase "the aesthetic point of viewâ⬠depends on the personââ¬â¢s perspectives which was developed though various experiences and orientations. I realized from the given assignments of the course, the sense of beauty was slowly enhanced and awareness was honed through personal direction accorded by the diverse art forms and medium. The Marketplace Visit was my initiation to an enlightenment in understanding the aesthetic approach to oneââ¬â¢s surroundings, particularly the restaurant I visited, in lieu of the market place. There was a realization at this point that the concept of beauty is actually experienced through other senses, not just the sense of sight. With various aromas, taste of the T-bone steak and the thirst that was quenched by the iced cold un- sweet tea, in conjunction with the calming effect of the atmosphere designed in the old Wild West, it was as if I was brought back into time and was made to relish the warmth and comforts of good old days. Beauty was experienced through the senses provided by the Hoof and Horn visit. Taking a picture was another memorable experience which attained learning the value of appreciating beauty at its natural form. The ââ¬Å"Unnamed Treeâ⬠could just be disregarded by majority as an eyesore ââ¬â a dried and dying unpreventable consequence of nature. However, the aesthetics in that picture could be seen as one reflects on the aspects of its surroundings, its artistic form, its sublimely matt color and the remaining breath of life through the birds nestling in its contoured branches. The viewer ââ¬â giving meaning and life through oneââ¬â¢s eyes provide enormous amounts of aesthetics in the unnamed treeââ¬â¢s existence. Designs, brands, corporate logos

Pathophysiology and Pharmacology Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Pathophysiology and Pharmacology - Case Study Example This causes blood to accumulate compressing the brain. There are two types of haemorrhagic strokes. Which include intracerebral, and subarachnoid categorized based on the disease aetiology (Ewan et al. 2010). Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident is caused by the interruption of blood supply to the cerebral tissue. It has multiple etiologic mechanisms and clinical manifestations. The ischemia is caused by thrombosis, embolism, arterial luminal obliteration, venous congestion and systemic hypoperfusion (Laredo et al. 2011). An Ischemic thrombotic stroke is caused by the development of a clot that obstructs the blood vessel. Pathology in the local endothelium is the common trigger of thrombosis. The most common pathological feature of vascular obstruction is the chronic inflammation disease Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic plaques usually form at bifurcation points of vessels and high shear stress points. They overexpress plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 that inhibits the enzyme plasminogen activator, which converts plasminogen to plasmin that degrades plasma proteins (Jorge et al. 2010). Plasmin is essential in fibrinolysis. Therefore, inhibition of activation promotes the formation of blood clots. Endothelial surface injury triggers an inflammatory reaction recruiting cytokines and peroxides. These substances trigger the expression of P-selectin, E-selectin and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 by the endothelial cells molecules necessary for the adhesion of recruited leukocytes to the endothelial wall. They migrate into the intima forming a fatty streak that are then infiltrated by macrophages forming plaques and accumulating lipids to form foam cells (Santos et al. 2012). Plaques can enlarge and occlude blood vessels, become ulcerated, calcify, develop thrombosis, form embolus or lead to the formation of an aneurysm. Ulceration occurs when the atherosclerotic plaques

The Guides of David Strorm Essay Example for Free
The Guides of David Strorm Essay In the beginning of the book The Chrysalids, David Strorm was describing a dream. A marvelous dream about a city seamlessly embraced by the untainted sea set around it. On the streets ran carts without horses and in the sky flew these burnished things shaped like fish, but they werenââ¬â¢t birds. Such a city was so fascinating to a boy who had lived in a society where everyone would look for anything that was odd, or really anything out of the ââ¬Å"norm. â⬠David never knew that this dream wasnââ¬â¢t just a dream, and he did not know that the city would ever be real. The following years had fetched David some happiness, but he fell into despair at a time. And even after all the trouble and discoveries good and bad, a happy ending was nearby. The city in the dream, New Zealand, was lastly reached, but, this was only because of the following people. Uncle Axel, the mouthpiece of John Wyndham, is Davidââ¬â¢s dearest uncle and mentor. A judicious guide whom which without, the young David would not be the same. He is an uplifting man who accepts peopleââ¬â¢s differences, contrast to Joseph Strorm, who is disgusted by the littlest differences on any being. The nights after Aunt Harrietââ¬â¢s death were very hard and frightening for young David, as he would solemnly pray to God that the next morning he would lose his powers and become normal. Grief had taken over his mind and I think he may have soon started following his father because he was the only influence in the house. Growing up in a vile dire district of hatred could never have been where David would spend his life as he was then slowly starting to hate his powers. One morning, David talked with Uncle Axel about Aunt Harriet and her baby, but halfway into telling his Uncle, he began crying. He then told him that he was scared. Uncle Axel said this to David: ââ¬Å"I can almost understand that God, made angry, might destroy all living things, or the world itself; but I donââ¬â¢t understand this instability, this mess of devia tions- it makes no sense.â⬠ââ¬Å"We got to believe that God is sane, Davie boyâ⬠¦Whatever happened there was not sane-not sane at all.â⬠(Ch.8, pg.78) He moved impatiently about Tribulation, preachers, and the Old People. Uncle Axel was the main guide for David because his words of wisdom brought David back up. David then accepted his difference and was able to survive the next six years without letting his powers get known. The Sealand woman was the definition of perfection and untainted beauty andà Davidââ¬â¢s main advisor and the storyââ¬â¢s lifeline. She was wearing a lovely white dress; she had impeccably white teeth, and she had creamy white skin with rosy pink cheeks. David describes her as ââ¬Å"all new and perfect,â⬠and the Sealand woman was thought as the real ââ¬Å"true image.â⬠She had telepathic powers on a level where she could send thought pictures midway across the world to Petra in Labrador. The Sealand woman liked change whereas Davidââ¬â¢s father hated change. In the heat of the battle in the Fringes, after Gordon and Sophie died from a cloudburst of arrows, a raft arisen and ended the blo odbath. In that raft was the angelic Sealand woman. She made the raft fire a web-like substance upon the rebellious people below and the substance casted a paralysis throughout. It had even caught Michael, David, Petra, and Rosalind nonetheless, but the Sealand woman got them out of the substance and was elated afterwards. And so, David, Petra, and Rosalind board the raft with the Sealand Women. The dream was then only minutes away from becoming reality. Two other guides for David were his little sister Petra Strorm and Rosalind Morton. Petra Strorm is a big help to David and the entire group as she is the main reason they had gained the chance to reach the ââ¬Å"promised land.â⬠Petra Strorm had unbelievable telepathic prowess where she could send thought shapes extremely far distances, like she did when she was drowning or when she communicated with the Sealand woman halfway around the world. If Petra and the Sealand women never sent thought shapes to each other, the Sealand woman would never have come to the groupââ¬â¢s rescue. Itââ¬â¢s Petraââ¬â¢s far-fetched powers that had sparked hope in the midst of the others. Rosalind Morton was also another helpful person in Davidââ¬â¢s journey because she had taken the responsibility of protecting Petra when in the Fringes. This saved David the worry because Rosalind acted as a mother for Petra. Michael was also a guide for David and helped him and the two girls survive the Fringes and reach Sealand. Michael was the groupââ¬â¢s spearhead as he was reliable and very bright. He was always able to make the right decisions and everyone would go to him for guidance. For example, when Petra and Rosalind were being held hostage, David was really hesitant and unsure of what to do, so he asked Michael. Furthermore, Michaelââ¬â¢s advice led to the salvage of the two girls. In addition, Michael had always endeavored to put David, Petra, and Rosalindââ¬â¢s well-being ahead of everything else and he in a brilliant demeanor. In exchange for their well-being, he put himself in danger. Forà example, when he joined the men from Waknuk in order to capture David and the two, he was risking the chance of his telepathy powers getting revealed. Plus, when the raft from Sealand had to leave due to low fuel, Michael sacrificed his own betterment to go back for Rachel. He let David move on with the others regardless and so he could reach his ââ¬Å"promised landâ⬠quicker. Uncle Axel, the Sealand Woman, Petra, Rosalind, and Michael were all life-saving guides and advisors for David. Uncle Axel taught David about Godââ¬â¢s sanity and tribulation which later made David regain his self-esteem and confidence. Petra was the reason the Sealand woman was so interested in rescuing the group and Rosalind Morton was the best friend a friend could ever have. But Michael above all, steered the group in the right direction and only with his advice did David survive in the Fringes. Then there was the Sealand woman who was the lifeline of the story, saving the lives of David and the others. A promise was made to Michael and the raft took off. David, along with Petra and Rosalind, was then on his way to seeing the dream.

Victimization, Deterrence and Social Disorganization
Victimization, Deterrence and Social Disorganization The life course theory is one of the developmental theories that is interesting. The life course theory incorporates the idea from the social learning theory that crime is a learned behavior (Siegel, 2011). This occurs when the individual experiences a transition during their life course. According to the life course theory we start behaviors at a very young age that can have a significant impact on our adult life. One of the points brought up in the life course theory is about transitions that we go through as we grow up such as finishing school, getting a job, getting married and having kids (Siegel, 2011). These transitions are what make the life course theory a developmental theory because these transitions are what can make or break your life. If a person experiences a good transition during their life it will help them to stay away from crime whereas if they have a bad transition period it can actually cause them to start or resume a criminal lifestyle. If these transitions are experienced to soon or too late it can also impact your life. Our textbook talks about these transitions as being too soon when a girl gets pregnant at a young age or too late when a teenager gets into the wrong crowd and makes choices that affects their futures and how these decisions can put their life on a totally different path than the one that they were on. The life course theory and the social learning theory are similar in that they both have the principle that a person is born not knowing how to be a criminal but rather learn how to be a criminal over the span of their life. The life course theory and the social learning theory are different in that the life course theory concentrates more on the experiences of a persons life that affects them and if it influences them to become criminals or not whereas the social learning theory concentrates more on how the person is shaped by the society that they live in and how that influences them to become criminals or not. Compare and contrast the different theories of victimization. In addition to explaining the theories, discuss their strengths and weaknesses. Also, use one of the theories to explain why women are more likely than men to be the victims of rape and domestic violence. There are four different theories of victimization. These include victim precipitation theory, lifestyle theory, deviant place theory, and the routine activities theory. The victim precipitation theory is where some people actually initiate the confrontation that eventually leads to their injury and death (Siegel, 2011). There are two ways that this theory can happen. It can either be active or passive. With active precipitation you have the victim that is showing threating behavior along with an exchange of words that sometimes even leads to the victim attacking first. In the passive precipitation the victim acts in a way that can encourage the person doing the attacking to attack or sometimes the victim can even send out threating signals that causes them to be a victim of crime. I believe that the passive precipitation form of the victim precipitation theory would be the reason why women more than men are the victims of rape and domestic violence. Some women unknowingly flirt or exhibit sexual behavior that can encourage or entice a male into wanting to have his way with her. In the case of domestic violence the woman can cause the man to feel thr eatened by her actions without meaning to. She may be mad and yell or strike at him and he feels threatened so he fights back. This is not an excuse for a male to strike a female of course but it can happen. One weakness of the victim precipitation theory is that with the passive precipitation form of this theory a person can become a victim when they actually had nothing at all to do with what was going on. The lifestyle theory is where crime is not a random occurrence; rather it is a function of the victims lifestyle (Siegel, 2011). Basically the more risk factors that you have in your life such as drinking and taking drugs the higher the chance that you will become a victim at some point. I like the way that our book points out that if you live a party type lifestyle in college it makes you more susceptible to becoming a victim. If you are a person on the other hand that is settled down and stays home a lot it reduces your chances of becoming a victim. The deviant place theory is the greater the exposure to dangerous places, the more likely people are to become victims of crime and violence (Siegel, 2011). This is basically that the person does not exhibit any behaviors to encourage the criminal to victimize them but because of where they live they become a victim. For example people that live in the poorer areas of the city are more susceptible to becoming a victim than say someone that lives in the suburb outside of the city where they can better control the elements that they live in and around. In the poorer areas is where I believe most of your criminals and homeless live and people who live around those elements become easier targets for the criminals. The routine activities theory is where victimization results from the interaction of three everyday factors: the availability of suitable targets, the absence of capable guardians, and the presence of motivated offenders (Siegel, 2011). Basically this theory is where you have three things that can increase the likelihood of crime taking place. You have houses that are in a nice neighborhood that have nice things in them that entice a criminal to break in to get these things to sell, you have no one home to guard the house and the nice things in the house and you have the criminal that is motivated by seeing this and wanting to profit from breaking into the house. Explain the theory of general deterrence and the theory of specific deterrence. Discuss how certainty, severity, and speed of punishment impact general deterrence? Then, discuss whether our current criminal justice system effectively produces general deterrence and specific deterrence? If so, how? If not, what needs to change to produce general deterrence and/or specific deterrence? Be sure to answer these questions in regard to both general and specific deterrence. Theory of general deterrence is a crime control policy that depends on the fear of criminal penalties, convincing the potential law violator that the pains associated with crime outweighs its benefits (Siegel, 2011). Basically with the theory of general deterrence it is saying that you will have a lower crime rate if the criminal believes that they will be severely punished for the crime that they commit. The certainty of punishment aspect impacts the general deterrence theory in that offenders that believe that they will be punished and that the punishment is not worth it to them will cause them to not commit the crime whereas offenders that believe that when they get caught they will not be punished will commit the crime. Certainty of punishment has a huge impact on a criminal when they are deciding to commit a crime or not. If a criminal believes that they will be severely punished for the crime they will think twice before committing the crime. However this aspect has little effe ct on the general deterrence theory. The swiftness of punishment does not have a large impact on the general deterrence theory because it takes so long to get through the court systems that by the time the criminal is sentenced that the effect of deterring the crime has long since been forgotten. It would be a good deterrent if the punishment was carried out quickly I think. Like in the old days when someone killed someone they were taken out by the local sheriff and hung. This being witnessed by the community deterred anyone else from wanting to commit the same crime and the same thing happening to them. Theory of specific deterrence is the view that criminal sanctions should be so powerful that offenders will never repeat their criminal acts (Siegel, 2011). Basically with the theory of specific deterrence you have the thought that a very high punishment or long jail sentence would keep a criminal from repeating their crime. Some times this can backfire though where the worse the punishment the more the criminal wants to commit the crime. This can be caused by the criminal wanting to show how big and bad they are and that the judicial system did not win. I think that the criminal judicial system produces more general deterrence than specific deterrence because we see more people that are deterred away from crime because of the perception that they have of the punishment that they will receive than we have people that dont drink and drive because of a fine and a small time spent in jail. If the punishments were higher for drinking and driving then I think we would have more specific d eterrence than we do. Social disorganization theory links crime rates to neighborhood ecological characteristics. Identify and discuss these characteristics and explain how/why they lead to crime. Use social disorganization theory to explain why there are more robberies in Atlanta, GA compared to Kennesaw, GA. The characteristics of the social disorganization theory are poverty, social/community disorganization, breakdown of traditional values, criminal areas, cultural transmission and criminal careers. Poverty can lead to crime in the neighborhoods that have a poverty concentration effect occur due to the middle class leaving and only the poorer residents remain. Our textbook states that, urban areas marked by concentrated poverty become isolated and insulated from the social mainstream and more prone to criminal activity (Siegel, 2011). In an area where you have white flight occur the people that are left have a harder time keeping gangs and violence under control due to their limited resources. Social/Community disorganization occurs when you have a lack of informal social control. When the families in these communities have a hard time keeping their kids under control and away from delinquent behavior this in turn causes crime to occur. When a breakdown of traditional values occurs the youth feel detached from their communities this leaves them more open to be recruited by the neighborhood bad guys and this leads to gang being formed and therefore crime being done in the neighborhood. Cultural transmission occurs when you have community fear. In neighborhoods that have teenagers that are getting into trouble a lot and a lot of empty stores the residents of these neighborhoods become fearful that they will become a victim of crime and this causes them to withdraw from their neighborhood. This fear is then passed on to the younger generation. According to our textbook the crime rates are elevated in highly transient, mixed-use and changing neighborhoods in which the fabric of social life has become frayed (Siegel, 2011). Atlanta is more of a mixed used society than Kennesaw and with the bigger businesses in Atlanta they have more people moving in and out of the city for work that is constantly changing the different neighborhoods in Atlanta. Kennesaw does not have the big corporate offices and therefore does not have the change of the neighborhoods and appears to be more stable than Atlanta. Atlanta is unable to provide the basic services to all of its residents and where you have a lot of people unemployed and homeless with a lot of time on their hands you usually have a high crime rate. You see more homeless people in Atlanta than you do Kennesaw. Also you have the concentration effect going on in Atlanta where a lot of the middle class have left the city leaving the disadvantaged citizens in the city. Kennesaw does not seem to have the concentration effect that we see in Atlanta. When you have a poverty concentration you see more criminal activity and a higher rate of robberies. Source: Siegel, L. Federal Laws Essay -- essays papers
Federal Laws The federal governments stand on inclusion is somewhat indistinct. There are federal laws that govern education of children with disabilities. However, they do not require inclusion, but only that a significant effort be made to find an inclusive placement. The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) was amended in 1997. The term inclusion does not appear in the act, but does require that children with disabilities be educated to the maximum extent appropriate in the least restrictive environment, which is interpreted to mean the regular education classroom. The intent of IDEA is to educate as many students with disabilities as possible in the regular education classroom (--, 2002.) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires that all recipients of federal funds must provide equal education of each qualified handicapped child in its jurisdiction with people who are not handicapped. Those schools that receive federal funding must place the handicapped child in the regular education classroom unless it is demonstrated by the recipient that this type of education with the added use of supplementary aides and services cannot be achieved satisfactorily (Schultz 2001.) Court Cases Court decisions provide guidelines governing placement of the child with special needs under IDEA. There are many court cases throughout the country involving challenges to placement of students in the least restrictive environment. In the case of Greer vs. Rome City School District in 1992 parents were fighting against the placement of their daughter in a self-contained special education classroom. The district argued that the costs of providing services in the classroom would be too high. The court ... ...d States of America: Pearson Education Group, Inc. Barry, Janet & Wise, B.J. (1997). Dilemma Of Philosophy Of Education
The decreased visibility and influence of philosophy of education on the educatorsââ¬â¢ community at large needs some deliberation. Rene Arcilla (2002) opened the debate with an essay on the subject. This was discussed with a number of educators who had different opinions with some even denying that there was a malady, while others agreed that while it did exist, the causes for the same were different.Eric Bredo argued that the problem is due to tension between philosophical credibility and making it relevant to education. The present confusion is apparently that of identity. Harvey Siegel on the other hand states that the crisis is only in the minds of philosophers and states that Arcillaââ¬â¢s argument that philosophers have neglected educators is not valid as educators are not just the K-12 school personnel. (Arcilla, 2002).Barbara Stengel has identified Arcillaââ¬â¢s anxiety with his personal dilemma of identity and indicates that if the role of educational philosophy is to integrate between the two then it is time to undertake the same through action rather than worrying about it. Kathleen Knight Abowitz seeks a solution to the problem in communication by adoption of multifarious approaches by the philosophers of education to include different languages, contexts and concerns of the audiences.Donald Arnstine belongs to the school with does not find any relevance in interaction between philosophers and educators and believes that each operates at a different level and calls for a review of the policy making process. Frederick Ellett feels that there is interaction between philosophers and educators when it involves a level higher than the K-12 educators while Audrey Thomson feels that the problem lies in the unequal relationship wherein philosophy attempts to be the master of the discourse attempting to explain to education how to do better.Gary Fenstermacher is of the view that the issue is overplayed and feels that philosophers and educators are talking with one another. He feels that both are important and right in their own context. On the whole these views of various authors provide many paths for consideration and reflection on the philosophy of education.

Problems in Setting Up and Running a Business Unit Essay
A business unit, sometimes called a strategic business unit or SBU, is a segmented group or department within a company that focuses on reaching a specific market or client. It may also focus on achieving a specific goal for the organization. While some businesses find success with this strategy, there are concerns and potential problems to consider before trying it at your company. Finances In business, money is usually a problem. It can be good to make money, but when you are just getting started with a business, it can be easy to lose money quickly. Before you start your business, develop a comprehensive list of the things you will need to finance and how much money you will need to make it happen. Discuss your business with others who have experience to try to cover as many costs as you can. When you have developed your startup budget, add 20 percent to it to cover the costs that you have not yet accounted for. When it comes to financing a startup, it is better to plan for more than you will need than to find yourself deep in debt right away. Employees Your employees can be your greatest asset and your greatest expense. It costs money to hire, train and retain employees. Your company needs to provide some sort of benefits package that includes health insurance, paid vacation days and paid sick days to attract and retain employees, and even then, you will have competition from other companies that may be able to offer better. As you delegate responsibilities to your employees, you begin to rely on them for your companyââ¬â¢s success. A key employee leaving your company can have an effect similar to losing a major account. Space It is common for a new business owner to try to keep his office and warehousing costs down. When your company first starts out, a small and affordable space may be adequate. As your company grows, you will need more space, and you may realize that the facility you signed the one-year lease for is no longer sufficient. Have a backup plan available for warehousing just in case you outgrow your current warehouse. Offer sales employees the option of telecommuting to reduce the amount of office space you need. Become creative with your space, or you may find yourself spending money to remedy a space problem to which you are contractually bound for years. Problems Meshing Ideas When you segment your company in this way, you may find it becomes more difficult to get units to combine and work together. Though the separate units have different purposes, there may come a time when they need to convene in order to accomplish a goal for the organization. If your employees become too familiar with working in segmented groups, they may have problems working on joint projects with other units. Expensive Establishing business units can also be expensive. For one, you may have to create separate physical departments within the company. You may also need to create separate websites, mailing addresses and, in some cases, entirely new sub-organizations to properly establish these units. Finding a balance between efficiency and cost when maintaining these units can be challenging. Time-Consuming Setting up and running business units is also time-consuming. When you establish one, you must create a separate mission statement, budget, marketing plan and general business proposal. You must also set up technology and tools to support the department. You must then evaluate the functionality of the department before repeating the process with another business unit. If you decide to start all of your units at the same time and then determine that the formula isnââ¬â¢t working, youââ¬â¢ll also spend a significant amount of time dismantling or updating all of them. Social Responsibility Small businesses can encounter several problems related to Corporate social responsibility due to characteristics inherent in their construction. Owners of small businesses often participate heavily in the day-to-day operations of their companies. This results in a lack of time for the owner to coordinate socially responsible efforts.[9] Additionally, a small business ownerââ¬â¢s expertise often falls outside the realm of socially responsible practices contributing to a lack of participation. Small businesses also face a form of peer pressure from larger forces in their respective industries making it difficult to oppose and work against industry expectations.[9] Furthermore, small businesses undergo stress from shareholder expectations. Because small businesses have more personal relationships with their patrons and local shareholders they must also be prepared to withstand closer scrutiny if they want to share in the benefits of committing to socially responsible practices or no t.[9] Job Quality While small businesses employ over half the workforce [10] and have been established as a main driving force behind job creation [11] the quality of the jobs these businesses create has been called into question. Small businesses generally employ individuals from the Secondary labor market. As a result, in the U.S. wages are 49% higher for employees of large firms.[11] Additionally, many small businesses struggle or are unable to provide employees with benefits they would be given at larger firms. Research from the U.S. Small Business Administration indicates that employees of large firms are 17% more likely to receive benefits including salary, paid leave, paid holidays, bonuses, insurance, and retirement plans.[12] Both lower wages and fewer benefits combine to create a job turnover rate among U.S. small businesses that is 3 times higher than large firms.[11] Employees of small businesses also must adapt to the higher failure rate of small firms. In the U.S. 69% last at least 2 yea rs, but this percentage drops to 51% for firms reaching 5 years in operation.[10] he U.S. Small Business Administration counts companies with as much as $35.5 million in sales and 1,500 employees, depending on the industry. Outside government, companies with less than $7 million in sales and fewer than 500 employees are widely considered small businesses.
French and Indian War Essay
The French colonies were situated in Canada and their trade and influence reached as far as the Mississippi River. The English colonies were located on the east coast of the Americas. The Appalachian Mountains separated both types of European colonies so there was elbow room for both. Flames began to ignite when war between the mother countries of England and France broke out. Tensions increased when trading and rivalry between two colonies increased. Soon war broke out and it became known as the French and Indian War. Both sides had advantages and disadvantages and there were many lasting effects. The British colonies began to lose in the beginning for many reasons. The colonies were disorganized and many jealousies and disputes arose among them. In addition the coloniesââ¬â¢ governors quarreled with their assemblies. The colonies saw themselves, at the time, as trading economic colonies, not an empire or nation. There was no need or want for a military and military organization. The British colonies were unfit to carry out an offensive war. Victory was meek for the colonies but courageous, fearless and heroic generals like Pitt, Amherst, and Wolf helped turn the tide for the British. In addition they began to attack cities instead of forts. The British colonies soon won the war with the Treaty of Paris. The French were incredible and favored victors at the beginning of the war in the Americas. They had a centralized military organization, skillful leaders who ruled with absolute authority, and soldiers inured to war. Of 10 major battles, France won a majority of them. Their location was good. Canada was fortified with vast outworks of defense in the forests, marshes and mountains. They had the help of the Indians who knew the land far better than any European. In Europe, the tide turned for France and soon so did too in the Americas. The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian War. The details of the treaty provide lasting effects. French power was completely thrown off the continent. However, the French were allowed to retain several islands in the West Indies. France gave Britain all lands east of the Mississippi River allowing the number of frontiers to increase. Spain gave Britain Florida. With all these territorial gains, it paved the road for the British colonies to expand. They soon declared independence from Britain and became America. Americans soon followed ââ¬Å"Manifest Destinyâ⬠and America is now what we see as today.

Loyalty and deceit Essay
Book Two of Don Quixoted used to be a separate volume but was later merged into one with the first. An author named Avellaneda wrote an unauthorized version of the book. An irate Cervantes used the pirated version in his sequel. The second book is more serious in the manner in which it tackles the subject of deception. Playing true to character, in the second installment Don Quixote is as gullible and endearing character as in the first book. Don Quixoteââ¬â¢s unbridled imagination gets him to trouble as usual and makes him the butt of jokes by wealthy patrons. Sanchoââ¬â¢s loyalty to Don Quixote sometimes forces him to resort to deception. For instance, when Don Quixoted travelled to Taboso to visit his intended Dulcinea, Sancho tries to convince him that one of the three peasnat girls they met while traveling as Dulcinea and her ladies-in-waiting. When the Don refutes and says he sees only three peasant girls, Sancho deceives him into thinking that he suffers from a cruel spell which blinds him from the truth. Since Don Quixote cannot distinguish fact from fiction, he theorizes that the enchanters transformed Dulcinea into an ugly peasant girl. Undoing the spell on Dulcinea becoms the chief goal for Quixote in his journeys. A friend Samson Carrasco disguised as the Knight of the Mirrors so he can beat him in a swords fight so they could force him to go home safely. Unfortunately, the Don wins the duel. So Quixote and Sancho pressed on to continue their journey. Later, Don Quixote accepts an invitation to the unnamed Duke and Duchessââ¬â¢s palace. From Chapters XXX through LVII talks about Don Quixote and Sanchoââ¬â¢s interactions with the Duke and Duchess. The duke and duchess accept the duo into their abode. Despite the formersââ¬â¢ encouragement to make them relax, Quixote and Sancho feel more uncomfortable than ever. Even if the duke and duchess appears to be social superior, their actions in these chapters reflect their shallow morality. By commanding their servants to look after Quixote and Sanchoââ¬â¢s needs, feelings of animosity are aroused. Perhaps brought about by jealousy. The invitation extended by the duke and duchess to the cluleless Quixote and Sancho actually signals the start of an elaborate scheme to deliberately deceive the two in order to make fun of them. The duke and duchess are also abusing the help in order to carry out their cruel intents. These make them morally reprehensible and spiritualy inferior to the common classes. Don quixote fails to grasp the deception behind the duke and duchessââ¬â¢ actions. He was painfully unaware of the extended humiliation he is being subjected to in the guise of friendship. In Chapter XXXIII, Sancho Panza boldly declares to the duchess that believes that his master is a mad man. When asked why he continues to stay with him, he says that he truly cares for Quixote. He stays out of loyalty. He also worries about Don Quixoteââ¬â¢s safety. These are probably the most telling lines of the story. Sancho, in his utter simplicity, proves to be compassionate and virtuous. Unlike Quixote who seems to be lost in his own world. Quixote may be virtuous but he is ignorant in the ways of men. The Duke and Duchess poke fun at Don Quixote making him a public spectacle. The conspiracy doesnââ¬â¢t end with Quixote but extends to Sancho as well. They pretend to come up with the antidote to Dulcineaââ¬â¢s enchantment even if the know the story is false by claiming that if Sancho whips himself 3,300 times, Dulcinea will go back to her old self. Don Quixote and Sanchoââ¬â¢s adventure orchestrated by the Duke and Duchess include flying a wooden horse to slay a giant who turned the princes and her lover into metal figurines. The Duke and Duchess even arrange Sancho to govern the Island of Barataria. Sancho eventually attains what Quixote promises to him ââ¬â to become governor. The imaginary island governorship bestowed by the duke and duchess enables Sancho to act out his fantasy of ruling a fictitious island. Even if what transpired is an elaborate ruse, Sancho proves to be an able ruler, very much capable of dispensing his job. His wisdom and realistic approach in solving the different problems presented to him made the townsfolk admire him. Sanchoââ¬â¢s rule is short-lived though as he realizes after he got wounded in a make-believe battle arranged by the Duke and Duchess that he is happier as a laborer. Even if his talent for leadership caught everyone by surprise, Sancho chooses to renounce the life of a feudal governor and turns his back on the the elaborate prank played by the Duke and Duchess in a courageous demonstration of loyalty to Don Quixote. The arrogance of the Duke and the Duchess in the Second Part merely highlights the arrogance of class distinctions and sheer callousness of people from the upper class. Sancho and Teresa Panzaââ¬â¢s wisdom which is highlighted at the end of the novel shows that old-fashioned goodness and wisdom from the common people still emerges victorious even in a world of full of deceit and cruelty. Don Quixote and Sanchoââ¬â¢s truth and sincerity prevail over the Duke and Duchessââ¬â¢ fraud, deceit and malice. Sanchoââ¬â¢s genuine service and loyalty turns him from Quixoteââ¬â¢s servant to a good friend. Exclusion clause Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Exclusion clause - Case Study Example In recent years, it has become common that the weaker parties have often challenged the stronger parties for compensations in case some accidents or dangerous things happen to them in the course of carrying out their commercial relationship, even though they were statutorily excluded from their contractual agreement. This essays explains how these exclusion clauses could find their ways into a contractual agreement that the stronger parties would be willing to accept, although grudgingly. For the purpose of explaining how exclusion clauses could become a part of a contract, the famous law case of Sayers v International Drilling Co. N.V is used. This is an example of an employment contractual agreement. Sayers, an English rig worker was hired in England by a Dutch subsidiary of a Texan oil drilling company to work on oil rigs abroad. He had an employment contract with International Driving Co. N.V that stated that if any injury occurs to him while working, he would accept the company's "Compensated Program" as his only remedy, and that he should waive any cause of action he might have in United Kingdom or under any other laws. But, suddenly, Sayers was injured when he was sent to work on an oil rig off the coast of Nigeria. The injury was as a result of his co-workers' carelessness. Sayers then decided to bring a legal action in tort against the Dutch company in England: this is an action expected to force the Dutch company to compensate him other than the "compensati on program" stipulated in his contractual agreement with the company (Nygh, 1999). Possible ways the Dutch Company could include its exclusion clause in the contractNygh (1999) explained that it is possible for Mr. Sayers to compel his employer in the ways described below to include an excluded clause into the contract: in this regard, offering compensations for injury suffered by an employee rather solely relying on limited "Compensated Program". (a) Broader classification: An employee that drags his or her employer to the court seeking an inclusion of a clause may do so on the reason that the excluding clause is inconclusive in its definitions. Take for example; International Drilling Co. N.V may have defined compensated "injury" as the one sustained in the course of duty. However, this classification could be extended to cover the injury caused by carelessness of co-workers, as in the case of Mr. Sayers, if his co-workers injured him in the course of their duty for the company. Indirectly, Mr. Sayers is involved in the process of carrying out such company's duty, even though he may be at rest when the mishap happened. Broader classification like this has compelled employers to re-consider their stance on excluded clauses. Another relative example was in the case of an employee that got injured while using the company's car on a weekend; meanwhile his company stated that all off-duty car accidents would be at the employee's liability. However, extending this classification to cover using the said vehicle to convey another employee on duty for the company could force their employer to accept removing the exclusion clause. In the court of law, cases like these are handled by lawyers who employed the principle of deconstruction to argue with

Ethical controversial about the abortion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Ethical controversial about the abortion - Essay Example These people base their argument with Aristotle point of view that abortion is right since it creates a strong path for people to control the size of their family. Supporters of abortion believe that there is no biblical text that specifically prohibits abortion, despite many citing various biblical verses as a framework for forbidding abortion. This essay seeks to underline the ethical controversial about abortion. In the article entitled, Abortion in Australia: a Legal Misconception 2005 Kerry Petersen presented the opinion polls, which showed that most Australians approved women having their rights to carry out abortions. In Australia, there has been little support and emphasize for introducing restrictive laws that ban abortion and most state regards abortion as legal to protect the health of the woman (Kerry 142). The ground on which abortion is allowed differs from state to state. In practice, most states in Australia believe that all women have the right to access medical serv ices for termination of pregnancy especially in cases when the pregnancy may interfere with their health. The major aspect surrounding abortion in modern times is just when the soul enters into the body. Just as in ancient times, Aristotle believed that if performed early, abortion was not killing the human life (Mercer 22). He considered that the embryo gained a human soul after forty days if male and ninety days if female. Before that period, Aristotle believed that the embryo had animal and vegetable soul. In modern times, some people believe that a woman has an ethical obligation to terminate pregnancy if conducted at an early stage. In this regard, most people claim that women may terminate a pregnancy because of many reasons such as in the case of incest or rape, when the mother is not financially prepared, or when the pregnancy interferes with the motherââ¬â¢s health. By virtue, the accumulation of human cells has the right to live if only it has reached a specific stage o f development. With this, it stands out that it is right to terminate the pregnancy provided it is done at an early stage. A study conducted in 2009 by Rita indicates that, a pregnant woman has the moral right to terminate pregnancy if the pregnancy interferes with her personal life. In other words, the woman has the right to take the decision without legal or moral intervention of others. A woman has the right of ownership to her body. With this, she can make the decision to abort the foetus if it is interfering with her life or health. Additionally, it may not be ethically wrong to terminate a pregnancy in cases where the mother has to choose, which of the conjoined twin will die. In such cases, the operation required to separate them may cause one infant to die. The woman may be forced to abandon one of her child to save the other. Nevertheless, opponents of abortion hold that human lives are sacred and one should treat them with respect and reverence (Mercer 30). Most religions stress that, God is the creator and giver of life, and human beings should not destroy what he has created in his image. The Roman Catholic Church maintains that abortion is against Godââ¬â¢s word and natural law, and there should be no scenarios that make it better or right. Ethically, religious experts believe that the foetus deserve to live just like a human being does (Haugen, Susan, and

Movie Response for Japanese film Zatoichi(2003) Review
Response for Japanese film Zatoichi(2003) - Movie Review Example the blind samurai represents the oppressed poor society who struggle for equality in the society through the search for justice for the less privileged. The film portrays the hostility in the Japanese society and the role of the samurai in the struggle for enhancing peace in the society. The blind Zatoichi is hired by Sukegoro a gang-leader because of his skills. Yakuza Shigezo, the head of a rich powerful opposition gang hires a bodyguard with similar skills as Zatoichi with the aim of creating equality in militant powered between the two rivalry groups. However, Zatoichi manages to destroy Yakuzaââ¬â¢s body guard and his entire army and fulfills his quest of protecting Ginzo town and avenging the death of the two geisha siblingââ¬â¢s father. In the Japanese culture, the samurai is a legendary term used to refer to a wars hero who represents the rights of the oppressed minority. Zatoichi is a film that portrays the exact description of the Japanese culture through the display of a blind Japanese warrior and his quest to free Ginzo town from oppression by a local Yakuza gang war that has forced residents of the town to pay excessive amount of money for their protection. In this case, the film perpetuates that the term Samurai is a symbolic version of peace ins pired by war heroes in the Japanese

Cause and Effect and Correlation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Cause and Effect and Correlation - Essay Example An article published by the John Hopkins University (2000) indicated that ââ¬Å"predominantly black, low-income neighborhoods in Baltimore were eight times more likely to have carry-out liquor stores than white or racially integrated neighborhoodsâ⬠(John Hopkins University, 2000, p. 1). Bradtmiller cited Interim Chief of the IU Police Department Jerry Minger as stating that ââ¬Å"There are so many factors that are involved in violence,â⬠Minger said. ââ¬Å"It could be something like a domestic problem or a hate crime and have not anything to do with alcoholâ⬠(Bradtmiller, 2010, p. 1). Again, one agrees that the abundance of liquor stores is a contributory factor to criminal activities. In higher crime areas, there are usually more police; does that mean that police cause crime? This statement is totally unfounded, unsubstantiated and does not indicate any correlation to criminal activities. The reason why police presence is needed is to specifically address the crimes committed in high crime areas. There could be a correlation that when there are high incidents of crime, there would necessarily be greater number of police to address the criminal activities in the area. To determine a reliable correlation between the number of liquor stores and the number of crimes in low income neighborhoods, what kind of experiment might you design? A correlation analysis between two variables (number of liquor stores and number of crimes) would determine a reliable correlation between the two. What kind of correlation number would make you feel fairly certain that there is a solid connection between larger numbers of liquor stores in low income neighborhoods and resulting crime? The correlation number ââ¬Ërââ¬â¢ (Pearson r) would establish whether there is a solid connection between the two variables. As revealed in Knowledge Base (2006), ââ¬Å"r will always be between -1.0 and +1.0. if the correlation is negative, we have a negative relationship; if its positive,

No Need To Trade Accusations Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
No Need To Trade Accusations - Case Study Example According to the paper, to begin, we note that according to the work energy principle, itââ¬â¢s possible to calculate the velocity v of a car coming to a halt given the cars weight and the coefficient of friction. In this case, the velocity can be got by using the formula. This gives a velocity of approximately 17.68 this translates to 38.0279 miles per hour way above the speed limit of 35 miles per hour that the humble township of West Trenton recommends for its citizens. Sandyââ¬â¢s car was pushed for a distance of 9m or 30 feet and since we know the final velocity of the van which was given as 25miles per hour by the police officer we can use this to calculate the weight or the mass of the van by considering that this van transferred energy to sandyââ¬â¢s car and this can be treated as work done. The van must have had a mass given by =176289 and which translates to a mass of 3101.50 kg 0r 6837.64lbs this is quite heavy. We can use this information to calculate the deceleration of the van before hitting sandyââ¬â¢s car and from this the initial velocity of the van. And a speed of 17.25m/s and which is a speed of 38.587 miles per hour.Ã

Review of the Literature Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Review of the Literature - Essay Example This paper will provide a concise review of recent literature on the topic of health information management as it concerns the nursing profession. According to Stansfield (2005) professionals dealing with health information management take charge of planning information systems, developing health policy and recognizing present and future information needs. These professionals also apply the science of informatics to all processes of collection, storage, utilization and transmission of information. The management of health information aims at meeting the professional, administrative, legal and ethical records-keeping demands of health care delivery (Stearns, 2000). In the management of health records, nursing professionals typically work with demographic, reference, epidemiological, clinical and financial coded health care information. Civan, Skeels, Stolyar, & Pratt (2006) suggest that the proper collection, use and management of information in health care systems determine the overa ll effectiveness of health care systems. ... As the field of health information management continues to grow and information technology plays a key function in the medical world, health information management experiences a transition from conventional managing practices with paper to efficient electronic management, for instance, Electronic Health Records (EHRs). However, the primary goal is still to assess, manage and use information essential to patient care and ensure that health care providers can access the information when needed (Fairweather & Rogerson, 2001). Electronic health records have been constantly articulated as the evolvement of health record-keeping. Since it is electronic in nature, this means of record keeping has not only been debated but also supported in the public realm and the health care professional community. As of the year 2008, at least 5 percent of chief information officers surveyed affirmed that they desired ambulatory electronic health records so as to have valuable health information records a vailable to move through each stage of health care. Managers in charge of health information are responsible for the protection of patientsââ¬â¢ privacy. They are also tasked with training their employees in proper usage and handling of confidential information entrusted to all health professionals, including nurses and doctors. Following the rise of the importance of technology in health care, health information managers are required to remain extremely competent with regard to the use of information databases, which generate vital reports for nurses, physicians and administrators (Stansfield, 2005). According to Civan, Skeels, Stolyar & Pratt (2006) the availability of the right information at the proper time is vital for health care quality and safety. This is because

Discuss the extent to which an understanding of marketing would be of Essay
Discuss the extent to which an understanding of marketing would be of use to organisations other than businesses - Essay Example In as much as distribution plays a significant role in ensuring that marketing is successful, the event of developing and effecting a promotional strategy is normally worthwhile as it ensures that organizations realize the objectives that they laid out when introducing the product or service of interest (Cohen 2012, pg. 36). Over and above, marketing plays a decisive role in making sure that organizations remain relevant in the market for a considerable duration. As a matter of fact, global brands such as Apple, Samsung and Coca-Cola take marketing very seriously and customarily allocate a substantial portion of their budget to handle marketing issues. This essay aims to provide more insight into the aspect of marketing, putting special emphasis on understanding the nature of marketing as well as the role that it plays in any organization. Similarly, the essay analyzes how marketing operates within a business and outlines the steps that an organization can embrace in order to influen ce the judgments of a number of customers. The nature of marketing is such that customer focus is central, and activities habitually revolve around the customer. The primary aim of those who are involved in marketing is to ascertain that the needs and desires of the buyer are met. To this effect therefore, marketers can be forced to raise the cost of going about the marketing exercise, just to certify that the goals and ideas of the organization are realized (Evans et.al 2009, pg. 80). Marketing can hence be regarded as harbouring a dual objective as it ensures that the customer is satisfied and the organization registers positive returns. The fact that marketing certifies that the standard of life within the society is maintained portrays it as a social process. This because it takes into consideration the changing needs and wants of the community, puts in place an effective provision and payment

Acceleration of falling cones Investigation Essay Example for Free
Acceleration of falling cones Investigation Essay Safety Statement:- To make this investigation safe I will wear sensible shoes, this make sure that I will not fall or trip on the table whilst carrying out the investigation. Prediction:- I predict that the smaller the surface area of the cone the faster it will fall. I know this as the more surface area the cone has the more air resistance there is. I also know this as when I carried out some research on parachutes, I discovered, that the larger the parachute the quicker the forces balanced, making the parachute fall slowly. Also, the smaller the parachute the longer it took for the forces to balance out, making the parachute fall much quicker. When I looked at a person freefalling (standing up) the results were that this also took at long time for the forces to balance out. When I saw the results of a person lying down I could see that the forced balanced out quickly, making the person fall slower. I know that it doesnt matter what weight an object has, it falls at the same acceleration, and lands on the ground at the same time. On the moon a feather and a golf ball were dropped at the same time, they both hit the surface of the moon at the same time. In any atmosphere when there is a gas or a liquid they initially drop at the same acceleration, encountering a drag force; this increases as it goes faster. The drag force increases until it equals the weight force, the forces are then balanced and it cant go any faster. This is called terminal velocity. Equipment:- The equipment that I shall use will be a stopwatch; to make sure that the times are as accurate as possible, a table of which to stand on when dropping the cone, and sensible shoes whilst standing on the table, I will also have a metre rule to measure the 2m distance, from the floor to the bottom of the cone. Method:- In this experiment I will time how long it takes for a cone to fall 2m. Each time I will make the cone slightly smaller, and therefore decreasing the surface area each time. I will then repeat each size three times: taking an average of the three times, of which I will then plot all the points on a graph. This will hopefully prove my prediction correct. The piece of card forming the cone will be moved 20? for each part of the experiment. Variables:- Distance, Surface area, Weight. The variable that I am going to change will be the surface area of the cone. This will help me determine whether or not my prediction is proven correct. Fair Test:- To make this experiment a fair test, I will take an average of the times of the cone falling after repeating the experiment three times. I will also make sure that I move the piece of card forming the cone around 20? each time, making the surface area of the cone decrease in regular intervals. Obtaining:- Results:- Angle (degrees? ) Surface Area (cm) Time (seconds) 1st Time (seconds) 2nd Time (seconds) 3rd Average Time (seconds) Velocity (m/s)nalysis:- My results show that the bigger the surface area of the cone the slower the cone would fall. This was due to the forces balancing out quicker. The smaller the surface area the quicker the cone would fall, it therefore takes longer for the forces to balance out, causing it to have a higher velocity. Looking at the graph above you can see that it did take longer for the cone to fall with a larger surface area. In the graph below you can see that the smaller the surface area the higher the velocity, (the time it took for the cone to fall in metres per second) My results show that my prediction was correct, the smaller the area the faster the cone will fall. The terminal velocity only lasted for a couple of cm, as the forces balanced out quite quickly. Velocity formula Distance = Velocity Time Example:- 2 = 1. 38 1. 45 The larger the area the smaller the velocity, this is because it takes longer for the cone to reach the ground. The larger the area the more air resistance it encounters, this makes it fall slower to the ground. My conclusion for this experiment is that the larger the area the longer it takes for the cone to fall, it therefore has a lower velocity. The smaller the area the quicker the cone falls, it also has a higher velocity. Evaluation:- The investigation I carried out was very good, as the results for each of the experiments that I carried out had almost the same time for each, the average was also very close to the time it took for each of the cones to fall. This data was very reliable. There are not any results that dont fit the pattern in the graphs. To carry out this investigation I had to measure the height of 2 metres of which the cone would be dropped each time. These results were then recorded, and then I took the average of each result, and plotted these points on a graph. If I did this experiment again I would take more results of each area to make the averages even more accurate, and reliable data. As well as having more data if this experiment was done again I would extend the experiment to involve weight. I would then try to prove that the weight of the cone would not affect the velocity and time of the cone falling. This would help me determine whether or not I was right about weight not being a factor of affecting the time and velocity. If I was to do this then this would be my experiment then this would be what I would do:- Prediction:- I predict that the weight would not make an impact on the time it takes for the cone to fall, and its velocity. Equipment:- Plastacine Stopwatch, Metre rule, Piece of card with cone and angles drawn on it. This time the variable I would change would be the weight of the cone. Method:- I would drop the cone with a ball of plastercine in it from a height of 2m. Each time I drop it I would change the weight of the plastercine, repeating this three times each for each different weight, this way I could get an average of the times, making it even more accurate. Acceleration and terminal velocity of falling cones.

The Most Competitive Economy in the Arab World Essay Example for Free
The Most Competitive Economy in the Arab World Essay In the online article entitled ââ¬Å"World Economic Forum says UAE is Arab Worldââ¬â¢s Most Competitive Economy,â⬠it was stated that the World Economic Forum has declared the United Arab Emirates to have the most competitive economy among the Arab countries (The Associated Press). This was from a survey done among the 13 Arab States, the results of which were presented to the Forum at a two-day meeting attended by the Arab business leaders held in Qatar (The Associated Press). The reason for the economy of the United Arab Emirates to be considered the most competitive is its ââ¬Å"highly developed infrastructure, particularly air and seaports,â⬠according to the economist co-author of the survey in the person of Margareta Drzeniek Hanouz (The Associated Press). In addition to this, the efficiency of the government of UAE in spending and regulation and the efficiency in the labor market had also become the important contributory factor to its success (The Associated Press). There is also a progress to be noted from the economies of other Arab countries because of its utilization of energy sources available to it (The Associated Press). Paired with this, there is government infrastructure support and enhancement that jives with the goals of the economy (The Associated Press). For once, it is very important that a countryââ¬â¢s economy rises. It will impact on the people if planned well and will help alleviate the status of the nation. It is also important that there will be participation from the private sector towards the goals of the government and vice-versa. The government, private, and civil society partnership is indeed a key factor to the success of any aspect of nations. However, it is also important that, together with the rise and progress of the economy, the social welfare aspects of a nation are also enhanced and their needs addressed. The social welfare of the people is important because they are the ones who make up the nation and contributes to the economy, as well. Works Cited The Associated Press. A Day in the Life of a Senior Crew Member
A Day in the Life of a Senior Crew Member The purpose of this report is to be presented to an induction class at the united airlines where I was asked to brief the new members on the role and responsibilities of the senior crew member to increase their knowledge on such. This report is in four paragraph format where it will include the introduction, research findings, discussion and the conclusion on the role of the senior cabin crew member, the responsibilities of the senior cabin crew member during the stages of a flight, the reporting procedures for ensuring Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance and revision of the importance of the role and responsibilities of the senior cabin crew member throughout the stages of a flight will be done, but before we move on the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance is defined by Caa.co.uk. (2017) as the rules and regulations set by CAA that all aviation sector governs under the CAA must follow, if there is noncompliance then there will be consequences. Research findings: P4: the role of the senior cabin crew member. Be a leader. Manage the other flight attendant on the flight, ensuring rule and regulation are being followed by both crew members and passengers. Serve and prepare food and beverages. Assist passengers whenever they need help. Complete all paper works before and after each flight. P5: The responsibilities of the senior cabin crew member during the stages of a flight. Responsibility during pre-departure: Pre-flight briefing. Communicate with flight and cabin crew members. Make passenger announcements. Complete documentation. Make equipment checks. Monitor team members and ensure all pre-departure duties are carried out. Do a cabin secure check. (Essence Learning 2017). Responsibilities during the flight: Plan and assist in delivering service to passengers. Provide solutions to the problem and make decisions. Monitor and manage crew members. (Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). Responsibilities prior to landing: Make passenger announcements Collect and complete all documentation Restrain all moving object like carts and secure sealing of bars, money etc. Do the final cabin checks. (Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). Responsibilities after landing: Handover reports Disarming and open the doors Communicate and work alongside flight ad cabin crew members and ground staff. Do a post flight breifing (Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). P6 The reporting procedures for ensuring Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance Defective equipment Safety incidents Medical and security incidents on board Discussion P4: the role of the senior cabin crew member. On the flight there different positions, you have the first pilot who is the captain, then the co-pilot, they are responsible for everyone on the aircraft, then you have the senior cabin crew member (SCCM) who is responsible for the cabin crew members and not only that but the SCCM is the leader of the cabin crew he is the first person to be called if there is any emergency on the flight and the first one to administer CPR in extreme cases . Not because the SCCM is the leader he is there to assist in preparing and serving food and beverages and all so assist passengers like carrying their luggage putting it in the overhead compartment etc.one another important role of the SCCM is to complete paper works before and after the flight, he is also responsible for a conducting a pre-flight briefing. P5: The responsibilities of the senior cabin crew member during the stages of a flight. The responsibilities of an SCCM depends on how big the crew is and whether its a long or short haul flight and the responsibilities change over different stages of the flight, before the plane takes off (pre-departure ) there is a lot of things to be done in a short amount of time so the SCCM responsibilities is to ensure that the duties assigned to the cabin crew are done. A pre-briefing meeting is kept by the SCCM to outline any change in flight information and safety procedures, a;so stating the nature of the flight and any other valuable information to the cabin crew members,SCCM is also responsible for the passenger announces where safety procedure are carried out and need to know information is passed on to the passengers.it is very important that the SCCM keep in communication with the flight crew to be well rounded on what is going on. A cabin check and equipment check is done to ensure that all equipment are working.(Essence Learning 2017).During the flight the SCCM responsi bilities are to ensure that the crew members and passengers are safe, monitoring and managing the crew members with on point decision and problem-solving skills ,the SCCM is all so responsibility for providing services to the passengers like answering any question they may have and also serve and prepare food and beverage, the sharing of duties to the cabin crew members are also a part of the SCCMs job description (Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). Prior to landing the SCCM responsibilities differs where he or she responsibility is to ensure that nothing harmful in the passageway, the securing of carts and the serving of hot beverage or serving is paused until the plane passes that stage, documents are also to be completed and handover at the end of the flight.prior to landing the SCCM will make passenger announcements (pas) so inform the passengers of the procedures and the last set of safety checks will be done (Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). After landing the SCCM disarm and open the doors, bid t he passengers farewell.communication with teamwork is of key importance in getting the work done effectively so the SCCM liaise with cabin crew members, ground staff, and the flight crew to ensure that there is clear understanding if there is any emergent situation or just the caring out of daily procedures.at the end of a flight, a post-briefing is done by the SCCM to go through what happen during the flight and if there is any improvement needed to be done.(Prospects.ac.uk, 2017). For P6: Outline the reporting procedures for ensuring Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance. Safety incidents CAP 382 The Mandatory Occurrence Reporting Scheme (MORS) Mandatory Occurrence Reporting (MOR) Forms outlining the situation must be sent via email or fax to the director of CAA in your region. A copy of this report must be given to the employer for flight safety reasons. Reports must be sent out within 96 hours of the event. If the situation is deemed hazardous then the CAA requires the reported to send another email or fax to state this information, the same thing is to require if the situation is not hazardous.(Anon, 2017) (See figure 1 in appendix) Defective equipment The manufacturer or a suitable authority should be advised of the situation. The organization to which the occurrence report was made or made aware by the person who made the report should notify the manufacturer(s) or the regulatory agencies. Anon ,2017 stated that when any part or equipment involved in an occurrence is being dispatched to another area or organisation for investigation or repair, the item(s) should be clearly identified as the subject of an occurrence report to the GCAA, by appropriate annotation of the tag and all accompanying paperwork. (Anon,2017) Medical and security incidents on board In-flight accident report In the event of an in-flight accident, The Accident and Incident Investigations Department (AIID) should be notified immediately via call or email, contacts are available on the CAA website. Then the commander or the operator of the aircraft must report to the CAA. (Caa.co.za. 2017). (see figure 1 in appendix) M1 importance of the role and responsibilities of the senior cabin crew member throughout the stages of a flight The major role and responsibility that the senior cabin crew member plays are to ensure the safety of the passengers and the staff, by doing this the SCCM have to uphold with the compliance of the regulations set by the CAA and other regulatory bodies by securing and doing periodic checks of the cabin and equipment. The SCCM is the leader if the cabin crew so he/she is responsible for ensuring that the duties are shared equality and being carried out by each assigned member ,the SCCM carries our a preflight briefing and post-flight briefing to ensure information is being passed on to the crew members and then to the passengers, doing this guarantees teamwork and flowing communication to limit confusion and panicking in case of an incident, the SCCM also aids in guest services like serving food and beverages and preparing crew member food this aids in teamwork and shows that no matter the rank you still have to be a team player. D1: Discuss the consequences of poor coordination, including non-compliance with the company and regulatory policies and procedures. May cause injuries(Anon.2017) May lead to death (Baum, Hedlund, Aristei Goldman, P.C. 2017). the lawsuit (Baum, Hedlund, Aristei Goldman, P.C. 2017). Loss of customers and ruin reputation. (Baum, Hedlund, Aristei Goldman, P.C. 2017). Employees may lose their job. (Smallbusiness.chron.com,2017) The decrease of productivity. (Smallbusiness.chron.com,2017) Cause delay. (Smallbusiness.chron.com,2017) Duplication of duties (Smallbusiness.chron.com,2017) Discussion For D1: Discuss the consequences of poor coordination, including non-compliance with company and regulatory policies and procedures The aviation industry focus is safety, so procedures and policies are set in place to ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and the aircraft, non-compliance of these procedures may cause injuries, lawsuits, loss of a job or even death. For example non-compliance of hot Liquids Service Procedures where it states that flight attendants must discontinue service of hot beverage in turbulence and hot liquids must have lids that secure closely, will results in the injury of passenger or crew member (Anon, 2017).Aircraft maintenance is very important and skipping a step or just not upholding the maintenance of the aircraft may lead to death , this is call aircraft maintenance negligence, for example in January 8, 2013 a small 19 passenger aircraft plunged to the ground killing all passenger on the flight including first officer and the pilot, due to the fact the maintenance of the elevator control system and center of gravity imbalance, the pilot was unable to bring nose of the pla ne back down, with the plane pointed upwards air was unable to flow over the wings. Airlines who fail to uphold the safety regulation and the coordination of policies and procedures may face with a heavy lawsuit which will in return ruin the reputation of that business leading to loss of customers and is incarcerated if found guilty (Baum, Hedlund, Aristei Goldman, P.C. 2017). The consequences of poor coordination will result in the decrease in production, meaning procedures will not go as smooth as they should because there is delay no one wants to wait especially when they were promised fast and reliable service, the customer retention part of the business will suffer because of this. The lack of coordination ay cause duplication of duties and allowing other persons not to have a duty because of poor coordination. This will cause double effort and max time to correct the poor coordination. (Smallbusiness.chron.com,2017)

Importance of Spyware Essay -- Computer Software
The Importance of Spyware ââ¬Å"Spyware consists of computer software that gathers and reports information about a computer without the usersââ¬â¢ knowledge or consentâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Spywareâ⬠). Spyware is a major problem for many users. It causes problems with the setup and general operation of a computer. It is one of the most typical internet intruders today and many users are unaware of what spyware is and they do not know how to recognize or prevent it. Spyware is different than a computer virus because a virus travels into the computer system without permission from the user. Spyware may be obtained by clicking the ââ¬Å"I agreeâ⬠option on the installation agreement before actually reading the entire contract. Some examples of typical spyware include: Direct Revenue, Cydoor, Xupiter, XXXDial, and SpyKiller (ââ¬Å"What is Spyware?â⬠). Most spyware is the result of downloading documents from the Internet. In this respect, spyware is similar to a Trojan horse. Spy ware can also come from clicking the advertisement pop-up screens, and through email. According to National Cyber-Security Alliance, 90% of home PCââ¬â¢s have been infected with some type of Spyware (ââ¬Å"Spywareâ⬠). In order to determine if a user has been infected with spyware, there are some vital signs to look for and recognize. There will be some defective functionality, where the spyware will keep track of the steps the user takes without the userââ¬â¢s knowledge of it. There is also a loss of privacy when spyware has infected a computer. The spyware can send private user information back to the Internet vendor; therefore it reduces the user privacy. There may also be an increased amount of pop-up advertisements on the computer screen while connected to the Inte... ... Anti-Spyware programs. Although spyware is a major problem for computer owners today, the advance of anti-spyware programs from software companies, along with help from the users, will ultimately aid in the termination of spyware altogether.
